Ready for Autumn

By Bill Dutcher;

I always look forward to mid-October.  The summer heat starts to subside and outdoor gigs ramp back up. I also get a sense of urgency in, “getting my house in order”.

Organizing my studio, tightening nuts and bolts on my gear, repairing cables… Everything to get ready for the onslaught of the music season in sunny Arizona. Another part of that is going through song ideas I’ve accumulated…

When the pandemic shutdown ground everything to a halt, I started writing songs as a way to deal with what was thrown at society, I started getting together with a friend of mine and we started recording with no sense of trying to write for radio, T.V. or film… just create.

Pretty soon we had 9-10 tunes and we decided to find the other players to complete the sounds we were hearing in our heads and writing. We wanted a unit of working musicians that feel the need to carve out a portion of their busy performance schedules to express themselves towards original music. Players that have a passion for creating compositions and saying, “I did this”.

It’s been a challenge to find the right people. Musical proficiency and technical ability is just part of the requirement. Finding players that can get along and work together towards the collective goal and that can give, as well as take, constructive criticism is the other half of the equation. At times, I feel that this supersedes musical ability.

Stay tuned. This all comes together starting in January of 2024!
